Introduction
Vertical hydroponic cultivation without the use of any land has always been in the mind of many people.
Who amongst us is not sensitive to the following:
- our wellbeing
- eating healthy
- 0km
- nutritional autonomy
- energy saving?
Normally these thoughts have little effect on us as, even though they are very nice, they are difficult to achieve in real terms.
The do-it-yourself method may achieve satisfactory results and a finedomestic garden but not everyone has the ability to create their own hydroponic system.
Today, however, it is possible to say “Yes you can” to these people!
In the era of space travel and quantum physics, it is now possible to cultivate plants without the need for any soil and to create your own personal garden.
If you have:
- a terrace
- a garden
- a small outdoor space
- a veranda
- an indoor space with good natural lighting
then you can create your own domestic garden.
We are referring to the opportunities offered by vertical hydroponic cultivation.
Simple operational principle.
The general operational principle of a vertical garden is very straightforward.
It consists of small and simple vertical hydroponic systems that are easy to transport and which require little space. Within specially designed and dimensioned slots, these hydroponic towers accommodate plants that grow out of the ground and in a soilless environment.
This is, infact, soilless hydroponic cultivation.
The roots of the plants on the hydroponic tower are partially immersed in water and partly exposed to the air. Thus the plants are obtaining nutrients and mineral salts from the water and oxygen from the air.
These conditions allow the plants to grow strong and healthy and to be less susceptible to bacteria and fungus as well as insects compared to soil-based plants.
As manydifferent types of plants can be grown, it will be possible to satisfy any personal desire or preference.
It is possible to grow any vegetable that grow above ground, aromatic vegetables, small fruit plants such as strawberries or berries as well as flowers. It is suggested to start your hydroponic cultivation journey with leafy greens as these tend to be easier to manage and then move to other vegetables. Potatoes, carrots, onions, etc cannot be grown on a hydroponic vertical garden.
In a future article we will explain the various steps on how to start with theseed, germinate it and take it all the way to a grown plantonto the hydroponic system.
